[My 230th marathon, successfully finished the Bali Marathon in 4:53:13. My 54th overseas marathon, first time in Indonesia, and 8th ASEAN country]
Sunday, August 23: My full marathon started at 4:20 a.m., and my wife's 10K started at 6:00 a.m. The weather was sunny, between 24 and 28°C. We arranged a private car to drop us off at the start line at 2:30 a.m. and pick us up after the race to take us back to the hotel, saving us a lot of time.
The course was very crowded at the start, and the long line of runners only gradually thinned out around 5K. The route followed hilly countryside roads featuring gentle ups and downs. Morning temperatures were around 23 to 25°C, with both heat and humidity rising later on. During the actual run, we didn't pass any palaces or beaches; while the scenery was peaceful, it lacked distinct character, though the cheering children and the women dressed in traditional attire were definitely a major highlight.
I also saw several runners from Taiwan on the course (Teacher Fang's group), which felt wonderfully familiar. Today I ran the first half more conservatively, walking the long uphills and clocking in at 2:22:34, while the second half was 2:30:39. With a difference of just over eight minutes between the two halves, the split was quite reasonable.
Congratulations also to my wife on successfully finishing the 10K! It has been nine months since she last ran the Porto Marathon 10K in Portugal, and coming up next, she has the Tallinn Marathon 10K, the Espoo Marathon 10K in Finland, and the Niagara Falls Half Marathon to take on.
